Linnaean Classification: Eukarya, Animalia, Chordata, Aves, Falconiformes, Cathartiae, Vultur gryphus
Regulator because it is warm-blooded and regulates its internal conditions.
Dormancy because it does not migrate.
Generalist because it can live in a wide range of areas including mountainous regions, coastlands, and deserts.
Consumer because it does not create its own food through photosynthesis.
Carnivore because it eats only meat.
Niche: The Andean Condor mainly scavenges food from dead carcasses of large mammals such as deer, beached marine animals, and dead farm animals. They also sometimes eat the eggs from the nests of smaller birds. When looking for carcasses, they sometimes follow other scavengers such as vultures. It’s talons are unable to grasp meat so it feeds on the ground. Additionally, it does not feed everyday but gorges itself till it cannot fly when it finds food. It has no natural predators when fully grown, although Andean Condor eggs and hatchlings are sometimes targeted by other birds of prey and mammals such as foxes.
